ABOUT

Jess McGillicuddy, a family, newborn and maternity photographer based in Charlottesville, Virginia

Meet Jess.

Hi, I'm Jess! I'm a photographer, wife, mom of three, and a Florida girl who traded palm trees for the Virginia countryside.

My husband and I moved our family from Florida to Charlottesville, and these days you'll usually find me somewhere around our farm, chasing after our youngest, cheering on our boys, tending to the garden, or finding another project that probably didn't need to be started.

I love slow mornings, fresh flowers, a good loaf of sourdough, and a house full of people. Life with three children is rarely quiet or perfectly organized, but I wouldn't trade it. It's also made me appreciate just how quickly the little things change.

My Approach

I've been photographing families for years, and becoming a mother has shaped the way I see the world through my camera. I love photographs with movement, connection, genuine laughter, and a little bit of imperfection. The images that mean the most to me are usually the ones that bring back exactly how a moment felt.

When we're together, I'll give you direction when you need it, let your children be themselves, and make sure there's room for the moments that happen naturally. I want you to walk away with photographs you'll love today and treasure even more as the years go by.

My favorite things.

01

My three favorite people to photograph

Two boys and one little girl who keep me laughing, on my toes, and constantly reminded how quickly childhood passes.

02

Grandma hobbies

Give me a mahjong table, a needlepoint canvas, and my girlfriends, and I'm happy. I've fully embraced my grandma hobbies, and I'm not the least bit embarrassed.

03

Anything that blooms

Roses, peonies, hydrangeas, dahlias. I'm happiest with my hands in the dirt, a garden full of flowers, and something beautiful to bring inside.

04

The good stuff

Summers in Maine, a glass of wine, tennis, homemade sourdough, and a good laugh. Bonus points if there's sunshine, good company, and nowhere we need to be.

Bless a family

Some seasons deserve to be remembered with a little extra tenderness.

Throughout the year, I gift a small number of sessions to families walking through an especially difficult season, celebrating a long-awaited miracle, or simply carrying more than most.

If someone comes to mind, I would love to hear their story.
